$29,500.00 Uninsured Motorist Claim Settlements: Rhode Island Car Accident
On the evening of February 18, 2013, two friends were in a vehicle traveling west on Briggs Street in Providence. Their vehicle was simply proceeding straight with traffic, when suddenly another vehicle blew through a posted stop sign and broadsided the friends’ vehicle. The force of the impact caused the friends’ (our clients’) vehicle to incur heavy damage to the passenger side and spin 180 degrees in the roadway. Our clients’ vehicle was rendered a total loss.
The impact caused the passenger occupant to slam his body and head into the side of the vehicle’s interior. Both clients were violently tossed back and forth in the interior. While our client called 911, the at-fault driver fled the scene, recklessly abandoning our injured client and his passenger.
Providence police arrived at the scene as did Providence Fire Department. Rescue transported our clients to Rhode Island Hospital with multiple injuries. Our clients subsequently incurred several months of medical treatment for concussive symptoms and head, neck, and back injuries. Thankfully, these injuries resolved.
Additionally, and also thankfully, our client driver had purchased Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage through his own Rhode Island auto insurance policy. This policy provided crucial coverage for our clients’ injuries. Had he opted out of such coverage, our clients would have been personally responsible for their medical bills and automotive property damage.
Although the RI auto insurer initially sought to limit compensation, our RI car accident attorneys ultimately negotiated UM settlements totaling $29,500.00 in addition to the property damage.
