Chrysler Recalls Dodge Dart Vehicles for Rollaway Risk

BMW

Consumer Report has recently reported over 298,439 Dodge Dart sedans is being recalled. Dodge Darts from the model years 2013-2016 are being recalled due to a malfunction in the gear selector, resulting in the vehicle rolling away even if drivers think they have put their car into Park.

This malfunction will still allow the driver to move the selector, but the transmission will not actually change gears – making the vehicle either stay in Drive, Reverse, or Neutral, despite the driver shifting the selector into Park.

Due to the gear selector failing, a vehicle could easily roll away and put the driver at risk and potentially cause a car accident. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are currently unaware of any car crashes or personal injuries that this recall caused – but are still warning drivers to set their parking brake before exiting their vehicle.

BMW has also found a problem in some of their 3 Series, 5 Series, and Z4 vehicles from 2006 and have recalled them due to an electrical short that could lead to fire. This recall could possibly affect around 184,505 vehicles, and has been traced to production irregularities in the heating elements. To avoid any type of personal injury occurring, BMW has warned drivers to stop driving the vehicle if there is smoke coming from the engine compartment, or if the driver smells smoke or plastic burning.

If you or someone you know drives one of these cars and are unsure of how to check if your car is recalled, you can simply go on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website and plug in your 17-digit VIN (vehicle identification number) into the site. If no information comes up, your vehicle does not currently have any open recalls! However, it is safe to check regularly – especially because automakers issues recalls often.
