Below are 5 back to school safety topics to review with your child:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Practice The School Routine Ahead of Time<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Talk to your child about the safety tips below before school starts<\/li>\n<li>Practice your child\u2019s morning and afternoon school routine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Walk\/Bike Safely <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your child knows 911, and your contact info as well as not talking to strangers<\/li>\n<li>Drivers must stop for buses and allow children to safely cross the road; take special care in looking for small children on foot or bicycle before making a left or right hand turn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safely Board and Exit the School Bus<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrive at the bus stop early and stand safely away from the street<\/li>\n<li>Before boarding the bus: wait for the bus to come to complete stop<\/li>\n<li>When boarding and exiting the bus: Take 5 giant steps in front of the bus door before turning<\/li>\n<li>Avoid the \u201cdanger zones\u201d located at the front and side of the bus \u2013 cross front of bus more than 10 feet away<\/li>\n<li>For more tips, check out the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safely Ride In The Car <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Properly install child seats \u2013 local police stations can help for free<\/li>\n<li>Keep children under 12 in the back seat \u2013 children in the front seat are 40% more likely to be injured in a car accident<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Review The Back to School Safety Checklist<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/safety_home\/SafetyObservances\/Documents\/Back%20to%20School\/Back%20to%20School%20Safety%20Checklist_2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Safety Council<\/a> has compiled a Back to School Safety Checklist for parents to review with their children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Our hope is for everyone to have a safe and successful school year.
