Best Personal Injury Attorney Advice: ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Legal Limitations

Have you tried using ChatGPT?  Here in Rhode Island, we have been fielding some calls about artificial intelligence.  I thought it would be helpful today to explain this new technology.  As to personal injury law, while ChatGPT may help provide some overview of the law, I would like to share 3 important limitations on the technology.

Check out all the personal injury cases Bottaro Injury Lawyers handle.  If you have been injured, it is important that you speak with an attorney with years of personal injury litigation experience immediately, and not solely rely on ChatGPT or other AI tools.  Call or text Bottaro Injury Lawyers at 401-777-7777 any time for a free and confidential consultation.

What is ChatGPT?

Odds are, you have heard the term “artificial intelligence” (“AI”) thrown around in recent months.  Specifically, you have likely heard of – or even used – ChatGPT to answer questions, tell a story, or even draft an email or letter.

Not sure what ChatGPT is?  Simply put, ChatGPT is a generative AI chatbot that is trained to answer your questions in a conversational way.  It has the power to review and synthesize materials to produce human-like responses to your questions or content requests.  ChatGPT can help you learn something new or draft an informal document, but it cannot guide you, let alone act as, your personal injury attorney.  For instance, when you ask ChatGPT to guide you through a “Rhode Island slip and fall,” it will suggest you seek an attorney’s guidance.  ChatGPT can generally explain the legal process to you, but even so, ChatGPT sometimes provides incorrect or biased responses.

How Can ChatGPT Help Answer Personal Injury Questions?

ChatGPT is a powerful tool that, amongst many other things, can provide some information that relates to personal injury law.  We at Bottaro Injury Lawyers welcome technology that can help provide some basic information to the public about the law.  However, the truth of the matter is, it is of course still in your interest to “lawyer up” as soon as possible after a personal injury such as a car accident.  Here are three reasons why:

1. Generative AI products, like ChatGPT, cannot readily answer your state-specific legal questions, nor prepare a full defense for you.

If you ask ChatGPT how to navigate a slip and fall case in the state court system, to analyze and negotiate the specifics of your case to negotiate with insurance adjustors or write a brief, pleading, or motion, it simply cannot do so.

2. AI products cannot not physically enter a courtroom, nor can they build relationships with others in the Rhode Island and Massachusetts courts.

Of course, AI products cannot take physical form and appear in court on your behalf.  And even if you used it to argue every step of your case, it would not be able to converse, negotiate, or properly interact with court staff, opposing counsel, or the judge.  Not to mention, if you case goes to trial, AI products cannot build and present a trial strategy like we at Bottaro Injury Lawyers have been perfecting for years.

3. AI products do not have empathy and cannot get to know you the way personal injury lawyers take pride in doing.

ChatGPT cannot get to know you and your case.  At Bottaro Injury Lawyers, we pride ourselves on our dedication to getting to know you and providing customized, human engagement.
