Best Personal Injury Lawyer Advice: Fireworks Safety

Did you know that if you or your loved ones are injured by fireworks, then you may be entitled to compensation through homeowners insurance?  As a personal injury lawyer, I have in fact represented people injured by fireworks and it is tragic. So, in light of the 4th of July, let’s review some fireworks safety.

Are fireworks legal in Rhode Island? Are fireworks legal in Massachusetts?

In both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, only limited fireworks are legal for sale and use.

For example, firecrackers, rockets, mortars, or any other device that launches a projectile and/or makes a “bang” are illegal.  The law in Rhode Island provides at RI General Laws § 11-13-1 of the Rhode Island Law states that no person shall offer for sale at retail or at wholesale, shall possess or have under his or her control, use or explode, or cause to explode for exhibition or amusement, display fireworks or aerial consumer fireworks unless permits are obtained. If someone were to violate this law, they could be guilty of a felony and fined an amount not exceeding $1,000.00 for each offense.

How Can I Safely Use Fireworks To Avoid Personal Injury?

Of course, avoiding fireworks are the safest bet. But otherwise, handle fireworks with care.  Adults should be handling the fireworks and supervising children.

One common way of personal injury cases from fireworks is due to improper distance and being in the line of fire. You should never shoot fireworks towards another person and, like gun safety, should ensure that nobody is potentially in the line of fire when you light fireworks.
