RI awarded Distracted Driving Grant

RI Car Wreck and Injury Attorney Receives Grant to Aid in Preventing Distracted Driving Accidents

RI car accident attorneys frequently must prosecute actions against drivers who cause damage as a result of distracted driving. At the Bottaro Law Firm, LLC, founder Mike Bottaro has always taken a strong stance on the issue of texting and driving. As a RI distracted driving lawyer, Mike has seen the disastrous consequences of distracted driving firsthand and has pushed for changes in the law and increased awareness of the risks associated with distracted driving.

Recently, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation has reported in a Press Release that the state has been awarded a $459,000 grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that can be used to further prevention of distracted driving across the state. Rhode Island was one of only seven states to receive grant money. NHTSA has mandated that states who receive this grant money must ban the use of electronic devices in cars by all young people. Additionally, the money will be used for various programs aimed at advancing education, enforcement and ministry outreach. The RI DOT has quoted Governor Lincoln Chafee as saying

Rhode Island continues to lead the way in proactively addressing highway safety programs. Through the receipt of this grant, we can step up our ongoing efforts to ensure highway safety and ensure that drivers stay focused while driving. I want to congratulate RIDOT and our many partners in law enforcement as they continue to do all they can to make our roadways safer.

Through grants like this along with the coordinated efforts of state governmental agencies, law enforcement organizations and even RI personal injury attorneys, we can continue to see a decline in the number of injuries and fatalities that occur each year as the result of distracted driving.
