Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with RIPTA Bus in Providence

On June 25, a 24-year-old man was killed in Rhode Island after he collided with a RIPTA bus while driving his motorcycle at Allens Ave and Public Street. According to the Providence Journal, The police and rescue workers responded to the scene around 5pm, where the motorcyclist was taken to Rhode Island Hospital less than a half a mile away from the accident where he was declared dead at 5:17pm. Two other motorcyclists were accompanying him and were unharmed according to the police.

“All we can say right now is that the accident is being investigated by police and we are cooperating with the authorities,” RIPTA Spokeswoman Barbara Polichetti told the Providence Journal.

The accident has been linked to speeding according to a witness of the accident, but has not yet been confirmed.

Bus Accidents in Rhode Island

All bus drivers are required to yield to pedestrians and cyclists, but some drivers are not accustomed to looking out for the people on the road, especially when they are usually hard to see. Because these pedestrians and motorcyclists have less protection than drivers, the types of bus accident injuries they may suffer could be severe, or even life threatening.

If you are in a Rhode Island bus accident involving RIPTA, please be aware that in our experience, RIPTA is a self-funded entity that can be very uncooperative and difficult to address legitimate claims with.
